Publishing the Aurland Newsletter - Past and Present

For many years, Nancy Nelson of Stillwater had published the Aurland Heritage Chronicle, but due to her family's health, was unable to publish it regularly. It was also her suggestion to get together for an Aurland Reunion, which we have done at Edgewood Restaurant south of Cannon Falls, MN, and in Albert Lea and lately at Urland Church, Cannon Falls, MN.

Many subscribers expressed the need for some kind of communication on a regular basis. Because of this we started publishing the Aurland Newsletter - Past and Present. It has been exciting to publish this and challenging to get it out four times a year.

Information Included in the Newsletter

Overlooking Aurland

Some of the things we include in the newsletter are:

  • translations from Aurland's monthly newsletter,
  • stories from Norway,
  • upcoming events including reunion announcements,
  • and obituaries.

Some of our subscribers are working on special projects. Dick Fretheim has a project for collecting names of people from Aurland who have settled in Montana. Millie is collecting material that expands this to other Midwest states. She would like emigrants' family history and old photos. Church membership lists would be welcome. Asmund Ohnstad has compiled a list of emigrants and their children from Aurland that we plan to include some day for people to use for reference purposes.

We would like more information about 1st and 2nd generations born to these emigrants. Jerome Ramstad has given us Norwegian language lessons. Gordon Eddy sends us news of Spring Grove in "Out on the Black Hammer". We are starting a feature called "Sharing memories from Our Past" in which anyone can participate. We repeat things periodically to remind you about certain projects or things happening here in America or in Norway. We continue to encourage more contributions from our readers.

Send Us Your Updates

We hope you will send us notices of family reunions, family history and charts for "connecting cousins", inquiries, memories, or anything else that you think interesting to other people from Aurland Heritage.
